I'm a solicitor with experience across the commercial side of business — whether that's your premises, your contracts, your online presence, regulatory compliance, or protecting the ideas and assets behind what you do
Independent consultancy support across commercial and regulatory matters, from a one-off question or document review to ongoing support, as and when your business needs it.
Business and share transactions, commercial agreements, collaboration agreements and general commercial support.
Advising herbal medicine and natural health businesses on sector-specific compliance, including website and business communications, product and marketing requirements, and the regulatory framework surrounding their work.
IP and trade mark-related commercial support, informed by my first-hand experience of developing and patenting products, registering trade marks and commercialising products.
Locum cover for gardening leave, handovers or busy periods, working within a law firm's own caseload and under that firm's regulatory arrangements.
My path into law grew out of my own experience. Having studied business, built and developed businesses of my own, and navigated the planning system to build my own home, I realised that what I'd learned along the way was something I could put to use helping others.
That experience started early. In my twenties I lived and worked on my own 22-acre organic growing farm, where I spent several years navigating planning applications and appeals before finally securing permission and building my own home there.
I'd already studied business for two years at college, and went on to put that learning firmly into practice. I established and grew my own enterprises, developed and patented products, registered trademarks, and dealt first-hand with manufacturing, commercial relationships and the everyday realities of making a business work.
That early work won national recognition, including the NatWest Bank/National Farmers' Union Venturecash Business Person of the Year title and the Country Living/Calor Gas Small Rural Business Award, selected from more than 250 businesses across the UK. It brought press and broadcast coverage, including the Financial Times, The Times, The Telegraph and Country Living.
During that time I was widowed, before the house-building project was finished, and in the years that followed my interests turned increasingly towards wellbeing and the ways people form and break patterns of behaviour. That experience inspired Peak State, my concept for a wellbeing app focused on habit-making and habit-breaking. In April 2011 the idea received an UnLtd Millennium Award, funded through the Millennium Awards Trust and the National Lottery. I later sold the concept.
In my thirties I took that experience into law. I studied law, trained as an ADR Group Accredited Civil & Commercial Mediator, and qualified as a solicitor. I've now worked in legal practice for more than a decade, across property, commercial and corporate matters, dispute resolution and intellectual property.
Those earlier experiences still inform the lawyer I am today. In many of the areas I now assist with, I've been in exactly your position: trying to get a project off the ground, secure permission, protect an idea, develop a product, or simply make a business work.
The legal issue is rarely the whole issue. What matters is what you're trying to achieve, and how the law can help you get there.
I'm a solicitor with a particular interest in herbal medicine and natural health, alongside my studies in medical herbalism. It's an unusual combination of skills: an understanding of both the living energy of things and the structures that give them order — qi and li, in other words. Health and law.
That combination lets me support people and businesses working in health, herbal medicine and wellbeing, bringing legal and commercial understanding to the regulatory matters around their work, including business regulation, trademarks and compliance.
I also have first-hand experience of developing, patenting and commercialising products, registering trademarks, and the practical realities of bringing ideas to market.
